Conventional pills use synthetic oestrogen and progestogens, and while oestrogen is thought to be responsible for bloating, the progestogens fail to counteract this effectively. Schering's medical adviser on fertility control Dr Graham Barker said: 'It is quite an exciting new product because it is quite different. He said the evidence to date was that the risk of blood clots with Yasmin was the same as with other low-dose pills.
