Shell Pink Balloon Flower

The Obedient Plant Physostegia ‘Vivid’, 'Physostegia virginiana', has deep pink cup shaped flowers that are 24” tall and a plant spread of 18-24”. ‘Vivid’ blooms from June to September and the waxy, green leaves make this plant a little different from other white blooming perennials. ‘Vivid’ needs a full sun area but will tolerate some afternoon shade, in well-drained soil. Use ‘Vivid’ in borders, mixed plantings, massed plantings (especially to separate other colors), in large containers or as cut flowers.

The Platycodon ‘Shell Pink Balloon Flower’,Platycodon grandiflorum, is a low growing perennial with light pink balloon like flowers that bloom in late May until August. (The flowers should be deadheaded to increase bloom time.) The blooms puff up before opening and have a wonderful green foliage. Use ‘Shell Pink’ as a cut flower, as a border in a perennial garden, or with Cerastium ‘Snow in Summer’. Platycodon is pest resistant and needs very little care. It is late to come up in the spring, so make sure to mark its location.

The Adam's Needle, 'Yucca filamentosa ‘Bright Edge’, is a clump forming perennial with tufts of dark green leaves edged in golden yellow. In the summer time, the foliage is even more golden. The creamy, bell-shaped, white flowers hover over the foliage. The red coloration on the long blades highlight the flowering crown. ‘Bright Edge’ has a plant height of 18” and a spread of 20”. It should be planted in full sun and in a well-drained area. ‘Bright Edge’ looks great in a subject garden or in containers and is also a butterfly attractor.
