Raspberry Wine Bee Balm

The Monarda ‘Petite Wonder’, Monarda didyma, also known as Bee Balm, Bergamont, Horsemint, Oswego Tea, is a clump-forming perennial that has tubular, two-lipped, light pink flowers with dark green aromatic foliage. ‘Petite Wonder’ stands at 12’ high and has a plant spread of 12-18” and blooms from July to August. Attracting hummingbirds, butterflies and bees, particularly when massed, Monarda provides color and contrast for the perennial border, wild garden, meadow, and herb garden or along ponds or streams.

The Nepeta ‘Walkers Low’, Nepeta faassenii, also known as Catmint, has a low mounding gray-green foliage with deep lavender-blue flowers and is one of the most vividly colored in its family. Blooming from June to September, it has a plant height of 10” and a plant spread of 18-24”. It is very drought tolerant but does need a well-drained area. It harmonized beautifully with Penstemon ‘Pike’s Peak Purple.’ Not to mention, ‘Walkers Low’ attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and bees and is a perfect first gardeners perennial.

The Evening Primrose Lemon Sunset, Oenothera longifolia, is a new Oenothera unlike any other. The large, 4” soft yellow flowers matures to a red sunset colr thst is complimented by its rich red stems. It has a plant height of 3’ and a spread of 36-48”. ‘Lemon Sunset’ will flower its first year, June to August. Oenothera requires full sun and needs a good drainage site. Try planting ‘Lemon Sunset’ with Salvia, Achillea or Columbine. For a wonderful sun perennial, one will not want to leave ‘Lemon Sunset’ out of their garden.

For a wonderful sun perennial, one will not want to leave ‘Lemon Sunset’ out of their garden.
